Moving-OutWhen the time comes to leave your Q home, it is your responsibility to make sure that the property is left in ship shape condition. Failure to do so will result in deductions from your deposit.

The most common reason for deductions from deposits is for cleaning. The house must be cleaned to a professional standard. If not, we have no choice but to employ cleaners to bring the property up to an acceptable level of cleanliness for the next tenants. Other deductions include damage, rubbish removal and rent arrears.

Feel free to invite anyone to assist you - Mums, Dads, friends and guarantors are all welcome to come and help you clean! But ultimately the responsibility lies with the tenants.

Moving Out Checklist

To ensure the moving out process goes smoothly, and to reduce the risk of deductions being made from your deposit, you should carry out the following checklist:

  • Cookers must be cleaned inside and out and filters replaced in the extractor fans.
  • All personal items must be removed; these include televisions, occasional furniture, duvets coat hangers etc.
  • All rubbish must be removed and the courtyard/garden must be presented in tidy condition. (No plastic bottles, beer cans etc)
  • The property must be left secure, doors locked and no open windows.
  • Fridges and freezers must be defrosted with the door left ajar. No water should be left on the floor.
  • Bedrooms must be vacuumed (remember to move beds), internal windows must be cleaned, vacuum behind the furniture and remove all Blue tack marks.
  • Arrange for all post to be re-directed. Access will not be granted after the date stated on your contract, and visits to check by us for post will be charged per visit (you can pick up a form from the Post Office to do this).
  • The last person to leave must provide us with final meter reads for the gas and electric meters, and water meters if this applies to you.
  • Particular attention must be made to black mould, which is caused by condensation; it is possible to wipe all or most of the condensation away, with a dry or damp cloth and with a suitable cleaning agent.
  • Vacuum cleaners must be fully functioning clean; fresh vacuum bags must be fitted.

At Q Student we hate to withhold deposits almost as much as you hate having money deducted from your deposit! We want to re-imburse your deposit in full so please make sure the property is returned to us in a condition that is clean, lettable and without damage.

Please remember that access is not allowed after the date stated on your contract, so all cleaning must be completed and all personal belongings must be removed BEFORE this date.
