With three supermarkets located in the city centre and also many larger supermarkets on the outskirts of the city, there's no shortage of places to shop. Many of the supermarkets, such as Tesco and Asda, will also deliver your food shopping if you order on-line. There are many more smaller food shops located throughout the city.

But groceries aside, Durham is bursting with high street favourites, independent shops and quirky boutiques - so enjoy a little retail therapy when your student loan comes in.

Open Mon to Sat (and Sundays in December), Durham indoor market has a greengrocers, fishmongers, bakery and a cafe with free Wifi. You can also get household goods, bedding, key cutting, mobile phone repairs, dry cleaning, fancy dress and clothing alterations.
There’s also a monthly farmers’ market, a weekly outdoor market and a Christmas festival on the first full weekend in December.
